AMC's Kaye: 'My Contract Is Up'

Rumors abound that Thorsten Kaye will exit All My Children when his contract expires later this year.
So, let's ask him.
“I'm not quitting, my contract is up,” clarifies the actor, whose first preference was that WEEKLY not write anything at all about his negotiations. (Sorry, Toast!) “To answer your question, I haven't decided what I am going to do. But I will always do what I can to help the show and to help Julie [Carruthers, executive producer]. She's a friend of mine.”
It's no secret that Kaye – and many other AMC actors – have not been pleased with the show's writing for a while. “I thin we have a good group of actors here,” Kaye says thoughtfully. “But sometimes it feels like we're just filling in gaps for the writers, and that's not our job. It's lie playing football on a field with potholes everywhere. You can't relax and just do your job because you're worried about breaking your ankle. That's what these scripts are sometimes. You're going, 'Can I say this? I'd better not, because it doesn't make sense with that....'”
When pressed, Kaye cites one humorous example of a 'pothole' in an upcoming love scene between Zach and Kendall in her apartment. “She f----- my son in that bed, so I don't really want to sleep there,” he quips. “It would be fun to explore the human issues involved with these people, instead of just going from event to event. I would love that.”
Many fans agree, so hopefully the powers-that-be are listening. In the meantime, Zach will continue battling Ryan for Kendall's heart.
“He's not going to leave,” weighs in Ryan's portrayer, Cameron Mathison. “He cares so much about the show. If he tries to leave, I will stable him to his dressing room.”
“I don't know what's going to happen. But,” Kaye adds pointedly, “there is a big difference between quitting and sticking out your contract.”
