Thorsten Kaye (Patrick, ONE LIFE TO LIVE)

ONE LIFE TO LIVE'S dashing Patrick Thornhart was introduced to viewers in high style - the Irishman was shrouded in mystery, in the thick of a deadly conspiracy when he stole the heart of heroine Marty Saybrooke. It's small wonder the newcomer made a splash in such a wildly romantic setting. But the true test of an actor's appeal comes after the initial excitement has passed. It's one thing to be a romantic hero in Ireland; the realities of life in Llanview are not as forgiving.

Happily, actor Thorsten Kaye has sustained his popularity as Patrick teaches English at Llanview University, tracks evil Carlo Hesser and pines over his beloved "Margaret." Kaye's Patrick is a man of passion - and passionate action. Viewers are drawn to the throaty voice, that irrepressible grin and that twinkle in his eye. Charismatic, yes, but overplayed? Never. Kaye understands the value of restraint. He keeps Patrick in check, saving the grand gestures for, well, grand moments. He's an ordinary man who keeps finding himself in extraordinary circumstances that force him to use his wits to survive. Along the way, he exhibits a kind of everyman nobility that is both admirable and unselfish.

Kudos to OLTL for finding the perfect romantic hero. You can never have too many.
