Soaps In Depth

Despite the fact that he's starred in more than his share of ultra-romantic soap love stories, Thorsten Kaye (Ian, PORT CHARLES) hasn't lost his perspective on real-life love - which is good news for longtime girlfriend Susan Haskell (ex-Granya), who reaps the benefits of his ideals.

"As an actor, that's what we do - that's escapism, which is what romance is," he explains, adding, "To me, romance means that two people are willing to suspend life as it is - the traffic and the bills - and spend time together.  I absolutely believe in it, but I don't think you have to go to Paris and paint somebody [like Ian did in his past life]."

Despite the actor's busy schedule, he always tries to put his lady love first.  Whether the whimsical notions come easily to him, though, he won't say.  "I just try to be me and not change in that way.  But if I talk to someone or spend time with someone, I try to focus on them."
