Having published a book of his poetry (From Timber Ridge to Daymer Gardens), Thorsten Kaye (Ian) already has proven that he has talent when it comes to prose. And although fans are eager for another installment, these days, Kaye prefers to write for himself. Why? Because it's a lot of work! "

To me, poetry is technical and organized," he offers. Unlike some writers for whom it's about flow of thought, for Kaye poetry requires a lot of planning and concentration. Asked to expand on his process, he says, "I think if you talked to a musician they'd say they just sit down and play, which is great if you can do that. But when I write poetry, it's all pretty much technical with stanzas and the same beats per line -- that helps me."

But in the end, is his method just as cathartic? "It's supposed to be," he acknowledges with a laugh. "The cathartic part might be the next morning seeing that you actually did it!"
