OLTL'S Thorsten Kaye - A Man Of His Word

Soap Opera Weekly

by Tonya Lensch, Published April 13, 1999

ONE LIFE TO LIVE fans who miss Patrick Thornhart's poetry can now check out the latest works by the actor who portrayed him, Thorsten Kaye. Kaye's book From Timber Ridge to Daymer Garden: A Journey In Words features poems by both Kaye and long-time friend Dorothy Bridges. Kaye also narrates the companion CD.

Of the poetry selections, Kaye explains, "some are new, some were just scribbled down somewhere, and three of them - Nodding Acquaintance, Miles From Home and Fall - were songs that some friends and I wrote in college."

Kaye, who relocated to California after leaving OLTL, is not only proud of his selections but of the work by his partner. (Bridges is Lloyd Bridges' widow.) "I was approached by Cat and Moon Productions, and I said I would love to get my friend Dorothy involved, because she's a great writer. Dorothy gave me a whole book of her stuff, and these are the ones that I picked. It's funny because some of these were written when she was 18 or 20 years old," recalls Kaye, who notes that Bridges' Sunday is one of his favorite poems on the CD. "It really sets a mood. That's the only one that doesn't have anything behind it, no music. I like it simple."

Kaye also inadvertently introduced Dorothy to soap operas. "Dorothy never watched soap operas before. When I went on One Life to Live, she was kind enough to watch. She got hooked and she still watches it. You can't call her between 1 and 2 p.m.," he says with a laugh.

As for future endeavors, Kaye is considering going back to school to get his doctorate in English literature. As for live-in girlfriend Susan Haskell (ex-Marty Saybrooke Thornhart), "She's doing great. She's on JAG as a recurring character."
