After months of speculation, Thorsten Kaye has confirmed that he is leaving One Life to Live when his contract expires in September. Kaye tells Soap Opera Weekly, "The thing that I don't want out is that someone will say I'm quitting something. It was never that." Kaye says he always planned to leave the show after two years, and there is little that could have changed his mind. "A good story. Maybe. I don't even know that. I've been fortunate enough in my life to play some of the best roles in English literature and world literature. I don't know if Patrick Thornhart is one of those."
Daytime has been an education. "I don't want to be in a medium where I don't know the outcome. I need more knowledge," He says of Patrick's transformation from poet to terrorist. "I was told, 'You're going to do this and this, then go off,'" he says. "Somewhere in there the writers said, 'We're going to change it and go somewhere else.' It makes everything else you've done a lie. That's hard."
Kaye plans to go to California, "Not to be a movie star, but to live my life the way I'd like, which is good friends, good beer...I'd like to get up in the morning, and by the time I go to sleep make a difference somewhere, make someone smile or whatever."
