Does being European give you an advantage over American men?
"I think there is a mystique about European men in this country. Or at least there was a while ago. I think what gives me the advantage is having a good character to play. It doesn't matter if it is an American man or an Englishman playing it."
Are fans surprised to learn that you aren't Irish?
"Not the Irish fans, because my accent is not that good. It's easier to do an authentic accent in a movie, because you know it's going to be over and you have more takes to do something. [Sir Laurence] Olivier wrote that what you do when you first start something is you give them a thick accent and then fade it out. By the end of the show, people will have accepted that you are from their country and you will still be understood."
