“You
don’t need to wait for me, Zach, because I’m done with you, and that will
never change.” So spoke a much-miffed Kendall Hart at the Mardi Gras Ball,
and who could blame her? The Fusion exec was still trying to understand
why her former husband and then-fiancé caused the blackout that
complicated her already-messy surrogate pregnancy. When the scorned Kendall
turned her bejeweled back on the love of her life and spent the rest of
the gala with Ryan, it looked like the Slaters’ love story had come to
a definite and painful end.
What a difference a few months can make! When Zach learned that his
estranged love was hidden away on Dr. Madden’s island of pregnant hard-luck
cases, he sailed down to liberate her. (Okay, so technically he had to
kidnap her to do it.
Po-tay-to,
po-tah-to.) Sequestered on the yacht, Ms. Hart threw a few fits, worked
through her issues, and ultimately realized that she loved and wanted both
her baby and her ex-husband!
The Preparations
Kendall awoke after an evening of tender lovemaking to find herself
alone in bed. “Why are you up? Why are you dressed, actually?” she quizzed
Zach with a smile.
“Busy. No rest for the wicked,” he responded coyly. She kept at him,
trying to get a sense of his plans, until he finally decided to divulge.
“A hint? A while ago, you and I were supposed to get married, and then
everything stopped,” he said. “So my secret little plan is to get it started
again… Will you marry me again? Be my wife again? I pledge myself to you,
your child, a life and a future.”
Acknowledging that Ryan would always be her baby’s father, Zach promised that he, Kendall, and the child would form a happy family, and that was all she needed to hear. “So what’s the plan? Going to jet out to Paris?” she asked, her mind made up and the proposal accepted.
“Or you could amble up to the deck,” he said, grinning. “It’s up to you.”
The Ceremony
The impromptu ceremony was casual and sweet, performed by a captain
ordained in the Church of the Guiding Star. In romantic candlelight, Zach
and Kendall pledged their love and faith. “Loving you is who I am,” Slater
said seriously. “That’s my vow to you.”
The bride teased her groom when he didn’t have a ring ready, then pulled out the engagement ring she had kept from their last go-‘round. “Would you like to put it back on my finger?” she asked.
“It’d be my honor,” he replied. The captain pronounced them husband and wife, and the pair kissed. “I want to get you home,” Zach said.
“Home sounds perfect,” his wife agreed. “With you, I can face anything.”

| The Bride’s Escort: Moments before she appeared
on deck, Kendall asked her unborn son – who she’d playfully named “Spike”
– to walk her down the aisle.
Not-so-formalwear: The bride wore an off-white, empire-waist maternity sundress and a white bloom in her hair. The groom sported an untucked white dress shirt and slacks. Post-Ceremony Fun: The new Mrs. Slater informed her husband that he’d be in the delivery room with her and spent a few minutes in the ocean air teaching him how to coach her in Lamaze breathing. Back to Reality: The couple headed home to Pine Valley, where Kendall planned to stop by Fusion and to tell Ryan about marrying Zach before reuniting later that day. |
