Miles From Home

Country roads might still remember
All the times I kicked along
My head pulled down by sorrow
With another first love gone
And when the night fell without warning
I grew up without a sound
Our dreams scratched into table tops
Across this Irish town...

There were old trees by the water
Restless waves played with their leaves
My heart reached out to all the world
Had never heard the word naive
And when the day broke I was dreaming
Of how to leave these haunted plains
And all the death or glory boys
Carried by the wind

I disregard the old reminders
Every time they dance my way
And in my soul I light a candle
For all the words I didn't say
When the night falls without warning
Another day will leave me torn
With my heart back where it's always been
And my body miles from home
My body miles from home...
